OH YEAH CLASSIXX!!

OH MY GOD THIS IS SO YAY!

We caught up with Tyler from LA based duo Classixx and got some killer inside information.

These guys just can’t fuck up! From their super remix of Phoenix’s “Lisztomania” to the HOLY GHOST! remix we blogged yesterday and now this absolute master piece, Major Lazer’s “Cash Flow” remix (download below). So yep it’s all happening, clearly we are totally loving these guys! Please take the time to check out what Tyler had to say, download the remix and then buy as much Classixx stuff as you can find…

• MINI INTERVIEW •

Who is Classixx?

Classixx is Tyler Blake and Michael David.

How did this whole music thing start?
Mike and I met playing in bands as kids all the way since middle school. Mike had another band that got a record deal and went out on the road after high school and I went to music school in boston. A couple years later his band broke up and I dropped out of college and we started doing this.

What’s just been released?
Our single “I’ll Get You” featuring Jeppe from Junior Senior on vocals came out in June on Kitsune. That same month they also put our our remixes of Phoenix’s excellent “Lisztomania”. We recently did remixes for our friends Holy Ghost! and Major Lazer.

What can we look forward to in the near future?
We’ve just finished a remix for Yacht on DFA and are currently finishing up remixes for Drop The Lime (Trouble And Bass) and Mayer Hawthorne (Stones Throw). We are working on a lot of original material and hopefully we will have some of that finished soon.

Where do you continually get your inspiration?
We just love music. We listen to as much as much music as we can and it makes us want to make our own. I’ve heard basketball players like Kobe Bryant or Lebron James talk about how when they were little kids they’d watch Michael Jordan or Magic play basketball and all they wanted to do was go into their backyard and shoot hoops. I think its kind of like that for us. Creating music is all we really know. It sounds cheesy but its almost become as much a part of our lives as eating or sleeping. Sometimes more actually considering sometimes we forget to do either of those things because of it.

Which artists are you currently listening to?
Too many to list.

Who are your hereo’s?
Some of our heroes are producers and artists who have followed their own path and still become hugely successful like Brian Eno, Daniel Lenois, David Bowie, Talking Heads and great songwriters and performers like Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Michael Jackson, and Price.

Who would you love to see play?
I would have loved to see Michael Jackson. He was supposed to play the staples center here in L.A. but unfortunately a memorial service replaced that. My friend Filip (formerly of Guns ‘N’ Bombs) just went to see Grace Jones at the Hollywood Bowl and said it was totally mind blowing so I’d like to see her play if she plays again.

What do you listen to when you want to relax?
Eno’s ambient stuff is probably the absolute best for that. But if I were going to lay out on a lounge chair by a pool with a Mojito or a Pina Colada I’d say the first thing I’d like to hear just off the top of my head is some Graceland/Rhythm of The Saints era Paul Simon.

Weirdest gig?
We once dj’d at a party that was supposedly being filmed for a reality TV show in Orange County. It was a bunch of old crazy and creepy dudes with too much money to spend on drugs and the kinds of girls that hang out with those kinds of guys. There were girls you don’t ever want to see naked getting naked, a fight broke out, someone’s dog got hit by a car, etc. When I tried to get us paid the guy shorted me and when I tried to get the rest he got pissed and went on a cocaine rant about how no one tells him what to do and that he knew 5 different forms of Martial Arts and he would kick my ass.

Do you watch TV?
Yeah I really like all those big shows like LOST, Heroes, 24 etc. Mike mostly watches Current TV and the Food Network it seems like.

Favorite food?
I just ate at this place called Wurst Cuche downtown that makes the best gourment hotdogs I’ve ever had. Supposedly it rivals Hot Doug’s in Chicago. I got the Duck Sausage with Bacon and Jalepeno. They also have really good beers on tap. That’s one of the best meals I have had in a long time and just talking about it is making me want to go back there as soon as I finish this interview.

Favorite place?
That’s a hard one. There are so many places that are cool for totally different reasons. We just did an Australian Tour and got a few days off in Melbourne. I don’t know if I would say its my favorite place but we both really loved that city.

Favorite website?
Probably Google. Maybe JDate?

WE CAN’T WAIT!

It’s been a year and half since Holy Ghost! released ‘Hold On’, a track that we
NEVER EVER
get sick of. But since then the boys have been super busy spinning all over the world, completing remixes and working on their debut album due to be released in 2010.
WE CAN’T WAIT!
But in the mean time, their new single ‘I Will Come Back’ is getting a lot of attention and this remix by Classixx is definitely a stand out for us here atThe Number 20.
