Bård Aasen Lødemel, aka Skatebård is our first mini interview victim / subject of 2012. This is the start of the 4th year of our blog, and why not start it off with a big fucking BANG of an interview! ;-) Our writing skills have basically stayed the same for 4 years, and so have we (sort of), we still just speak our minds and write what we feel the music brings us… We don’t really try too hard to be anything other than us, we know what we like and we do what we do well! That’s how we roll… OK Ok so enough about us. Skatebård is one of Shari & Vari’s all time favorite modern – synth italo masters. This talented Norwegian got our attention back in 2006 when he released his album Midnight Magic on his own label Digitalo Enterprises. This album really had all we needed and wanted, his tracks kept us dancing in many of our crazy Shari & Vari music nights (mornings)… His music just makes you wanna dance or just take a seat and enjoy… Dream a little, play the air synth, relax a bit more and maybe pretend that you are controlling a spaceship (which we do by the way!). His production, remixes and mix-tapes all speak for themselves. To round this up; Bård is seriously talented and his music makes us ever so happy. Oh! Aaand guess what, the track he has given us is seriously killer! To be expected…!! And RIGHT NOW is the world premier of this beautiful Mungolian Jetset remix… YES!
MUNGOLIAN JETSET – WE ARE THE SHINING (SKATEBÅRD RMX)
How would you describe your sound?
Warm, but also very synthetic. If it was a colour: Red.
Who has been the biggest musical influence on your life?
Oh, it’s very hard to point out one person. Don’t think I can.
Name three of your favorite records old or new?
These are kind of random records, the first three that came to mind from my top 500 or so list: Sensitive – Driving, Massimiliano Pagliara – Focus for Infinity, Tangerine Dream – Ricochet. Not totally random since they were the first to spring to mind, of course!
Out of your body of work what is your favorite track and why?
I would say Gamle Furutrær, because it has the deepness, atmosphere and sound that I’m looking for. (Sorry to use these clichéd expressions).
What is your second favorite thing after music?
How did you know music was first? Hehe. Em, record sleeves is the second favorite thing. Or music videos. Or clothes.
Whats on your radar right now?
I will do a club series in Bergen along with the Ekko festival main man, and I have a few remixes being released soon, on Full Pupp, Sauroid and more. Plus I’m planning a couple of underground vinyl 12-inches.
What’s the wildest moment you’ve experienced in your musical career so far?
The strangest thing was to play in a classroom full of taxidermy birds and animals. That was strange, but a more wild and also good experience was to play a Skatebård live set in front of 4000 people at the Pitchfork Stage on Primavera Sound Festival.
What’s the one thing you can’t live without?
What turns you on?
What’s at the top of your shit list?
Noise. The kind of nagging noise that can come from neighbors or the street.
